What do you know about sun protection and SPF?

Updated: Jun 8, 2020

Sunscreen and SPF

Sunscreen is achieved with compounds that absorb or reflect ultraviolet light. Sunscreens contain natural filters, organic filters or mixtures to achieve a wide range of protection. Sunscreens that absorb ultraviolet light need 20-30 minutes to provide the desired protection from sunlight, so it is recommended that sunscreen be applied half an hour before sun exposure.

When buying our sunscreen, you usually choose it based on the desired SPF index, which ranges from 15 to 50+ (an indicator that refers only to protection from UVB radiation and not from UVA). So a sunscreen product with:

  • SPF 15 absorbs / reflects 93% of UVB rays,

  • SPF 30 absorbs / reflects 97% of UVB rays,

  • SPF 50+ absorbs / reflects 98% of UVB rays.

As shown in the diagrams, the use of sunscreen with an SPF 50+ index, gives only 1% higher protection than the corresponding one with SPF 30, while at the same time "weighing" the skin with additional sunscreens.

So, at  ZЄLIA  Herbal Holistic Cosmetics, we consciously chose to make the HELIATOR sunscreen  with SPF 30 protection index.

During our exposure to the sun, the skin is subjected to oxidative stress; its deyhdrates and ages. That's why we enriched the  HELIATOR sunscreen with the antioxidant, moisturizing and restorative ingredients approved by Ecocert.

Our sunscreen is suitable for all skin types and for children!

Triglycerides:

An excellent emollient but also a solvent of vitamins and other active ingredients, with high resistance to oxidation. It creates a film on the surface of the skin, reducing transdermal water loss.

Vegetable softener from sugar & coconut:

We chose it because we refuse to use synthetic silicones in our sunscreen.

Sesame oil:

Rich in fatty acids such as linoleic, vitamins E, D and B and in metal trace elements, it prevents the oxidation of skin cells by sunlight, while at the same time it is anti-inflammatory, providing mild sun protection.

Sunflower oil :

Rich in minerals and antioxidant vitamins A, C and E, it protects the skin from free radicals and sunlight.

Natural Moisturizing Factor:

A completely natural ingredient, produced by fermenting sugars and starches from plants. It is also one of the main ingredients of our skin. Its binds moisture to skin cells.

Aloe:

Our favorite! With its moisturizing, emollient, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. With generous protection it provides us with free radicals, thanks to the flavones it contains. With its mild antihistamine properties, its vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Vitamin C:

The vitamin of youth, as it helps in the formation of collagen, fights free radicals, provides gentle protection from UVA and enhances the elasticity and radiance of the skin.

Gingo Biloba Extract :

A real treasure! Protects skin from redness & inflammation when exposed to UVA / UVB, it is a powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory agent improvings microcirculation and activating cell metabolism. It delays the aging of the skin by inhibiting the destruction of collagen and the polymerization of hyaluronic acid.

Green tea extract:

Anti-inflammatory, rich in antioxidants, it protects the skin from the destructive effects of free radicals, preventing the breakdown of collagen from UV radiation. The blondes it contains stimulate the microcirculation of the skin, improving its tone and radiance.

Lavender essential oil:

Anti-inflammatory, protecting against sunburn.

Visalvolol

Ingredient of the Essential Oil of Chamomile. With anti-inflammatory, moisturizing and healing action, it protects the skin's collagen.
